Hard-hitting Team Indiana impresses
Team Indiana looked impressive in the annual Midwest Classic Baseball Tournament. Eleven states (Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Michigan, Maryland, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania) sent a team to Plainfield, IL to complete for the best in the Midwest.
Here’s how Team Indiana faired:
· Team finished 3-1 beating Illinois 12-6, rained out vs. Michigan, beat Missouri 17-8, lost to Maryland 3-9, and then beat Kentucky 10-9.
· LHP Josh Negele from Crown Point HS picked up the win against Kentucky pitching 5 innings only giving up 1 hit while striking out 11. Cody Campbell got the save.
· Highly talented LHP Steven Rice, Crawfordsville HS, wasn’t quiet as dominating as he has been, but got the win vs. Illinois while Ken Mahala from Andrean HS picked up the save.
· Kokomo’s TJ Weir suffered the tough-luck lost against Maryland pitching 4 innings with 7 Ks and only 3 hits. Weir was also impressive at the plate going 6-for-12 with 2 home runs on the weekend.
· Sean Manaea a 6-foot-5, 210-pound left-handed pitcher from South Central HS had plenty of offensive support behind him to pick up the win against Missouri.
· RBI machine… Cowan’s Cody Campbell showed his versatility picking up the save against Team Illinois and leading Team Indiana with 8 RBIs in only 11 at bats. Campbell finished 6-for-11, .546 ba, with a double and home run.
· Kid can rake. Scott Donly, INF from Crown Point HS, can flat out hit. Donley posted a .667 batting average as he went 10-for-15 with 6 runs, double, 2 HR, and 6 RBIs.
· Team plays long ball! Team Indiana hit 13 home runs in just 4 games. Campbell (1), Weir (2), Donley (2), Brownsburg OF Alex McGowan (1), Taylor's C Seth Vautaw (1), Jeff Limbaugh a 6-foot-3 1B from Crown Point posted 3 home runs and hit .500, and Ken Mahala of the 2009 Class 3A State Champion Andrean 59ers blasted 3 home runs. All home runs are impressive, but Mahala smashed a couple that are still going…
Great job Team Indiana!
