Top 2009 Prospect – Ranking based on showcase performance only
1. Ryan Boss, Lake Central HS, 1B-OF, 6-3, 200: Strong-bodied athlete who blasted 16 home runs last spring proved to be the big hitter at Prep Baseball Report’s Saint Joseph’s Showcase. At the plate, he demonstrated extremely quick hands and bat speed, was mechanically solid with good pop and hit the ball hard. From the outfield he showed arm strength (84 mph) and played an athletic first base. Athletically, he ran a 4.9 40 yard dash. All-around strong player.
2. Kevin Gates- Chesterton HS, RHP-SS, 6-0, 175: Earned the event’s best 2009 pitching prospect, as he showed he can throw three pitches with very good command from two different arm slots. Gates was especially intriguing as a side winder with his arm side run and sharp slider. The athletically-built right-hander also flashed good actions at shortstop with bat speed at the plate.
3. Chris Pearson- Center Grove HS, C, 6-2, 190: Strong and athletic, Pearson showed very soft hands receiving with good footwork on his throws. Taking the top catching rank at the showcase, he had a consistent 2.0 pop time. Pearson swung the bat well displaying good contact with occasional pop to all fields and a quick bat.
4. Travis Reboulet- Hamilton Southeastern HS, 3B-OF, 6-2, 185: Reboulet (pictured right) was the best all-around athlete at the event. He had the event's best arm strength in the field (86 mph), ran an event-best 4.7 40 yard dash with very good lateral quickness in the field, and at the plate he let the ball travel with a balanced swing.
4. Kyle Zegarac- T.F. South HS (IL), RHP. 6-1, 185: Zegarac displayed an outstanding curveball. The event's best off-speed pitch was a very late breaking curveball with good depth. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound righty topped 83 mph on his fastball.
5. Jake Owens- Concordia Lutheran HS, 3B, 6-1, 195: This interesting prospect has the tools and body to keep developing into a top-ranked athlete. Owens showed good actions with an above average arm strength. At the plate he has quick hands with good timing that finds the barrel.
6. Anthony Olund- Lake Central HS, 2B, 5-10, 165: A hard-nose competitor, Olund can flat out hit. Shows good bat speed at the plate with actions at second base.
6. Antonio Balcazar- Bishop Noll HS, RHP, 6-1, 175: This lean and athletic right-hander has a quick arm, clean mechanics, and a lot of upside. With his loose arm action and finish to his pitches, Balcazar (pictured left) should see a significant spike in his 82 mph fastball. This righty will be an impact in the spring.
7. TJ Hecimovich- Munster HS, LHP, 6-1, 180: Interesting pitching prospect showed good arm-side life with good rotation and break on the curveball.
8. Kyle Kaluza- Lake Central HS, OF, 5-10, 165: Kaluza possessed good outfield mechanics with accurate throws to target. This speedy prospect showed a good flat swing with quick hands.
9. Brennon Gallagher- Bishop Dwenger HS, 1B, 6-5, 220: If you need a big time left-handed power hitter Gallagher is your guy. He has a natural lift to his powerful swing that makes for a dangerous threat in the lineup.
10. Andrew Bilby- Tri-Central HS, RHP, 6-3, 210: This strong-bodied senior works out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Bilby throws three pitches for strikes with a curveball as an out pitch.
Top 2010 Prospect – Ranking based on showcase performance only
1. Pat Borlik, SB Washington HS, RHP, 6-3, 185: This long and lean right-hander earned the event’s best pitching prospect thanks to his 86-88 mph fastball, ability to throw three pitches for strikes, including a sharp slider, and good deception. Borlik is one of the best prospects in the entire Class of 2010.
2. Max Majchrzak, Lake Central HS, RHP, 6-3, 160: Majchrzak has a very projectable body with a high ceiling. His quick arm possesses good run on his fastball, a slider that’s sharp and down in zone, and a great change-up with good action. Watch for Majchrzak’s velocity to spike as his mechanics develop.
3. Brian Crider, Lake Central HS, C, 6-2, 200: Switch-hitting catcher displayed a powerful, aggressive stroke from both sides of the plate. Crider (pictured right) had accurate throws to second with a 2.06 pop time. 4. Frank Pluskota, Lake Central HS, 3B, 5-9, 170: All-around player has aggressive actions. Great lower half hitting mechanics generates good power and extension in his swing.
5. Kurt Kudrecki, Lake Central HS, RHP, 6-4, 170: Lean and athletic body with a 3/4 arm slot, Kudrecki showed good late sink to his fastball and feel for a change-up.
6. Beau Freeland, Scecina HS, 1B-OF, 6-3, 200: (pictured left) Solid mechanics, loose arm, and finishes well out front.7. Frank Fisk, Clinton Central HS, 1B, 6-1, 270: A hulking presence in the box, Fisk has a lot of power potential
8. John Pedersen, Lake Central HS, OF, 5-10, 145: Outfielder with a good approach to the ball and balanced stroke.
Top 2011 Prospect – Ranking based on showcase performance only
1. Ryan Byrne, Noblesville HS, RHP, 6-1, 170: Compact mechanics with good balance. The right-hander has a loose and quick arm, and showed an 80 mph fastball with good depth on his curveball.
2. William Nelson, Columbus North HS, C-INF-OF, 5-11, 145: Catcher with good footwork and throwing mechanics will develop as he matures. All-around prospect plays all positions well with a good line-drive swing.
