
The Class 1-A Coach of the Year is Matt Fougerousse of Shakamak High School. His team posted a 26-8 record on their way to their first State Title. The Lakers had been the 1-A runner-up on three other occasions. Coach Fougerousse completed just his second year of as a head coach. Blake Mollenkopf of Caston was second in the voting. Named as the 2-A Coach of the Year was Gary Rogers of Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers High School. Coach Roger’s 2008 team won 30 games and lost only 3 in route to their school’s first state baseball title. The Bishop Luer’s team was able to be come champions with a 14-8 victory over Elwood High School. Coach Rogers just completed his 22nd year of coaching having won over 350 games. Luers High School won the three state titles in 2007-2008. John Froedge of Crawfordsville High School was honored by the coaches as their 3-A Coach of the Year. His Knights team won their first baseball State Title, posting a 32-4 record. Froedge guided his team to the state championship while winning his 532nd game. John has been coaching baseball for 27 years. Second in the 3-A voting was Scott Moore of Greensburg High School. The 4-A Coach of the Year was Phil Webster of Decatur Central High School. His 2008 squad posted a 29-7 record as they won their first State baseball crown. The Hawks were in the state finals for the first time. This was Coach Webster’s 25th season as a head coach.. His career record stands at 473 wins and 229 losses. Greg Dikos of Penn High School was second in the voting.
These four coaches will be honored at the January state baseball clinic, when they receive their Coach of the Year plaques. They will also be presented Coach of the Year rings by the Jostens Ring Company at the Friday awards banquet.
